Monument to Kauila at Punaluu
The black sand beach at Punaluu  is home to Hanu, Hawaiian green sea turtles. This is monument is dedicated to Kauila, a turtle said to have had the power to turn herself from a turtle into human form and would play with children along the shoreline, keeping watch over them.

Punaluu

A quick and dirty panoramic picture of Punaluu.  Hard to take create one with the waves constantly changing.  Guess that's why it's better to see it in person.  Click to see a larger version.

Sunset at Kawaihae

Sunset as seen  from our table in a restaurant in Kawaihae on the Kona side of the island.
