Seattle  11 August 1999

OK, not exactly the crack of dawn, but I did get to the market early.
The only crowds were the fish vendors stacking the catch of the day
on small mountains of crushed ice, and dozens of women
creating flower arrangements.

1st batch of the day at the Crumpet Shop. Giant tub on
the left sideis filled with the yeasty batter,
slowly bubbling while it waits.

After the rings are filled, the griddle is covered with the metal
plates, so they 1/2 grill, 1/2 bake.

15 minutes later, the crumpets have been flipped, and are
almost ready to come off.  I had mine with blackberry preserves.

Exclusive resort?  Bill Gate's house?  Would you believe the
REI outdoor goods store?

Two separate trails, one for hiking, other for mountain
bike testing.

This is no trailer-toted climbing wall. Looks about 60 feet tall.
The glass atrium on 3 sides gives climbers a view of Mt Rainier,
Puget Sound, and downtown Seattle

View from the Marina at the southern end of Lake Union.  A quick and dirty panorama picture.

Seattle  13 August 1999

Seems about 1/4th of Pike Placer Market is fresh flowers,
prices look good, arrangements are gorgeous.

You can watch the people moving from bucket to bucket,
creating the arrangements one flower at a time.

I'm guessing this was a special order, I watched them make up
20 or so of the same arrangement.

Fresh crabs, clams, oysters. I may have to stay at a place
with a kitchen next time I visit.

The first Starbucks store.
